Tomorrow I'm going and attempting to find some tomato seedlings and some strawberry seedlings. The problem is, my japanese is atrocious. I can count! I can beg forgiveness with the best of them. And I can smile a lot and say good morning and thank you and be as polite as I possibly can be.

But beyond that, and a few katakana, I'm still lost after living a year here in Okinawa. I know, terrible, right?

I know strawberry is ichigo. I know please is kudasai. But I'm not certain how I would ask for a salesperson to direct me to seedlings. And I'm not entirely certain that 'tomato' translates over to the same word. I have ichigo and tomato down in katakana so I can spot the signs if they're out.. but I don't know that they'll be out.

I can ask sumimasen, eigo wo hanasemasu ka? .. but if noone speaks english, I'm kind of stuck.

Help, please? =)

And if someone could show me the katakana for potting soil, I'd really, really appreciate it.

Second: If someone could tell me how to say 'would you wrap this for me, please' in japanese, I would really appreciate it, too. As it is now I just kind of smile up at the people brainlessly and say 'uhm.. please?' in a tiny voice and they get it.. but I feel like it's so disrespectful. I thank them in Japanese, but it'd be so nice to say it all in the same language.

Help? lol
