other companies? I know Sony is probably salivating at the opportunity to get revenge on Microsoft for the beating they gave Sony in the video game console wars. Blu-Ray becoming the de facto standard offers them the perfect opportunity to do so. Since Blu-Ray is a technology patented by Sony, can they force Microsoft to pay more to use it?
The reason why I ask is because this new change in what once was the format wars changes everything. It reduces the Xbox 360 to a $300 toy that just happens to offer some online features and only plays regular DVD's out of the box. The PS3 is now the entertainment "super toy" which does darn near everything.
I suspect that eventually Microsoft will attempt to produce Blu-Ray drives to go with the Xbox 360 in order to stay competitive. If not that, I think it will be inevitable to see it on Microsoft's next console. Xbox 1080 anyone?
