Could you mount a trebuchet on a boat?

I don't know that much about physics or medieval weapons or anything like that, but I've been wondering if it would be feasible to mount a large trebuchet that can fire very large and heavy ammunition on a boat. I don't think you could. I think the motion of the ocean and the instability of the weapon itself would just make that impossible, not to mention that you would have to load up so many heavy projectiles. Then again, the trebuchet does seem to have a pretty smooth release and, unlike a catapult, it doesn't need something to forcibly stop its swing. So what do you think? Do you agree with me that a ballista is the only really feasible naval siege weapon? Or would a trebuchet actually maybe work?
Touche. But What about like a on a ship though? Like a ye olde timey sailing ship. Like the kind that might be used during the time that trebuchets were invented.
