Crime short story ideas?

My little sister has to write a 700 crime short story for her english class at school but she can't decide what the crime should be and would love some ideas. The story needs to end neatly with a solution so that it is not a cliff-hanger.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Just free write about things that are exciting to you (or her I suppose) until you find something that sticks. If someone else come up with the idea, she'll never be able to write the whole thing, although 700 words is pretty short.
