Curious question about Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64?

ok now when I was little and I would watch my brother play this game he would try and climb the outside of the castle walls to get to the top of the castle and when I asked him why he said (my memory is fuzzy on what exactly he said) that if he got to the top he would meet Yoshi idk where he read or heard this at but I am just wondering if this is true or not?

I don't remember a cannon I just remember him going to a corner and trying to jump from wall to wall to get up there

oh well we'll see when and if I can find his N64 and the game I wanna play it again
 
Yes it is true I believe my brother once did meet him. I think you get an egg. But you need the flying cap and activate some cannons. I think you need to beat it first though. My memory is also a blur but I believe it's true
