Fame with both winning 2 MVP? Awards. Which player deserves to be inducted more? Maris or Murphy? I think they both should be in.
i don't even count Juan Gonzalez or Barry Bonds, even though they won more than 2, their both roiders, murph and maris were clean

Juan Gonzalez also has two MVP's and is not in the HOF. He barely survived his first ballot in 2011 picking up only 5.2% of the vote.

I don't think Maris or Murphy deserve the Hall of Fame. They both had a few very productive years but were not good enough for a long period.

Murphy just fell apart after 1987. His last six seasons consisted of 88 HR, 339 RBI and a .234 batting average. His career numbers were 398, 1266, and .265. Two more HR would have help his chances quite a bit. Maris was an average hitter (maybe below average) until he joined the Yankees. With Mantle hitting behind him in the lineup he saw a lot of fastballs and took advantage of it. His career number.were 275, 850, and .260.

I guess out of the two Murphy probably deserves it more even though I think he falls short.

edit: I didn't mention Bonds and Frank Thomas because they aren't eligible for the Hall yet.

Of those two Dale Murphy-more impressive lifetime stats-even though it was in a "launching pad."

What about Barry Bonds with 7 MVPs?

Even if you cut his stats in half because of steroids-he's in.

Yes, they should. The rap against Maris is that he doesn't have Hollywood worthy numbers. 61 is pretty Hollywood, if you ask me. He didn't just hold A record longer than anyone else, he held THE record longer than anyone else. Hall of Fame means famous people are in it, right? Maris is an icon.

The rap against Murphy is much the same, but, again, special circumstances need to be acknowledged. He began as a catcher. Granted, he didn't play a lot there, but switching from catcher to another position isn't easy. Ask Craig Biggio. Murphy also put together a playing streak of 750 games or so. Not bad.

And both guys didn't just win 2 MVPs. They won them consecutively. So for more than just a little while they were pretty good.
