David Wright of the New York Mets has cashed in on his great season. The third baseman signed a new contract worth approximately $140 million. Of that money, about $122 million is new money.
The 29-year-old hit .306 last season with 21 homers, 93 RBIs and 91 runs. However, that was after a rocky 2011 season.
Overall, this is a gamble for the Mets. Wright has had a solid career but showed signs of slippage before his bounce-back performance in 2012.
As for Wright, it’s safe to assume that he’ll spend his entire career in New York.
