Deron Williams said he was worried about joining the 17-40 New Jersey Nets. After his first game with the Nets, his new team is now 17-41. In a game in San Antonio against the team with the best record in the NBA, the Spurs came away with a 106-96 victory. Deron Williams finished with 14 points and 12 assists.
Said Williams: “It was different at first. I wasn’t really nervous or anything. It’s just good to be back on the court.”
The Spurs were led by Manu Ginobili’s 26 points. Tim Duncan and DeJuan Blair both had 17 points and six rebounds, while Tony Parker chipped in with 13 points and ten assists. Off the bench, George Hilll had 19 points.
Said Ginobili, commenting on Deron Williams’ first game with the Nets: “He looked really good calling plays and running the show.”
Though he might have looked good, Deron Williams and the Nets have a lot of work ahead of them to translate that into good play on the court.
