Desktop PC - How do I connect it to the internet when we have DSL /

Wireless in the house? I just restored one of my desktops in the house and I am trying to get it to connect to the internet. I am running XP-Professional 2001. I try to connect to (LAN) but it won't let me. Any ideas? Thanks.
