Alright, I know that sounds ridiculous, but a certain religious person in my life never fails to fall back on that excuse when in discussion. He says that "even Darwin admitted that life on earth was too complex to have come about by itself, he wrote a last book before he died admitting that he believed in creationism". That sounded like a large crock of BS to me, as I am a biology major and had never heard of such a thing, but he seemed adamant about it, and also quite sure that there was some conspiracy by scientists to keep people from reading and knowing about the book lest they learn the truth about evolution. Gasp!
Anyway, this is obviously not true (forgetting for a moment that even if there WAS such a book, it would not matter, as today we have far more developed knowledge of processes that have kept evolution a valid theory, so even if Darwin did take it back at some point, our tests have just backed up the theory), but what I am really looking for is some PROOF that this book does not exist. I've searched rather extensively online, and have not found anything, so I'm wondering, has anyone heard of such a book, or heard of someone disproving the existence of such a book?

okay, this is long, (I have edited it for length,) but it is the reason idiotic bible-thumpers cling to this lie about Darwin, I have put the link below for source:

The Lady Hope Story: A Widespread Falsehood

`Shortly after his death, Lady Hope addressed a gathering of young men and women at the educational establishment founded by the evangelist Dwight Lyman Moody at Northfield, Massachusetts. She had, she maintained, visited Darwin on his deathbed. He... had confessed: "How I wish I had not expressed my theory of evolution as I have done." He went on, she said, to say that he would like her to gather a congregation since he "would like to speak to them of Christ Jesus and His salvation, being in a state where he was eagerly savouring the heavenly anticipation of bliss."

`... Lady Hope's story was printed in the Boston _Watchman Examiner_. The story spread, and the claims were republished as late as October 1955 in the _Reformation Review_ and in the _Monthly Record of the Free Church of Scotland_ in February 1957.

These attempts to fudge Darwin's story had already been exposed for what they were, first by his daughter Henrietta after they had been revived in 1922. "I was present at his deathbed," she wrote... "Lady Hope was not present during his last illness, or any illness. I believe he never even saw her, but in any case she had no influence over him in any department of thought or belief. He never recanted any of his scientific views, either then or earlier. We think the story of his conversion was fabricated in the U.S.A. . . . The whole story has no foundation whatever."'

Darwin's last published work was on earthworms, a subject he was keen on, and which took him many years research. Darwin declared himself agnostic.

The "Lady Hope Story", published in 1915, claimed that Darwin had reverted back to Christianity on his sickbed. The claims were refuted by Darwin's children and have been dismissed as false by historians.[153] His last words were to his family, telling Emma "I am not the least afraid of death – Remember what a good wife you have been to me – Tell all my children to remember how good they have been to me", then as she laid down for a rest, he repeatedly told Henrietta and Francis "It's almost worth while to be sick to be nursed by you".[154]

Its not true.

You say that you are looking for some "PROOF that this book does not exist." You cannot PROVE that a book does not exist. You can only prove that: you have not found such a book, that to YOUR knowledge it does not exist. Which proves nothing but that you gave up too soon. :)
