Did you ever notice this with regards to album sales these days?

Albums that have songs overplayed on top 40/adult contemporary stations are more likely to go platinum/multi platinum than albums with simply plays on the modern rock/mainstream rock/active rock formats. This is exactly why stuff like Kid Rock and Hinder have gone platinum while others who've had success on the rock stations have been having issues going platinum. For example Seether had a big hit "Fake It" on the rock charts and 2 other hits on the rock stations, but struggled just to gold and right now isn't close to going platinum. Weezer also had a big hit last year with "Pork and Beans", but their sales are really down (their last album went platinum due to Beverly Hills getting the plays on top 40 station...note, top 40 station). Offspring's recent hit "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" hasn't helped their album go gold at least.

It stinks these days. All it takes is one song on the top 40 or adult contemporary charts and you could go platinum while on the rock stations, it's tougher to do.

Mainstream never has been good music IMO, and really I don't find this surprising. Celtic Frost is far superior to Slipknot in terms of talent as a metal band IMO and who has the larger fan base, more sells, etc Slipknot /:
