Direct T.V. dish splitter/outside?

need spliter, I can't get direct tv to play, the spliter has a coax cable from the dish to the splitter outside, hooked to the house and a coax cable from this splitter is hooked to underside of splitter incoming to the home to television., the splitter that was used had 4 hookups at top of splitter and 4 on the bottom side. Thank u very much for any help.
