Directv remote won't work; box won't shut off.?

We can't change channels or even turn off the Directv box. The batteries are brand new (we just changed them). Even when we press the power button on the box, it won't turn off. What's going on?
We've also press Reset twice, and it's still in the same condition.

you might have a bad remote...i'd contact direct tv about getting another...also check the batteries they can get low just sitting in the package they come in

Mine is doing the same thing this morning. I just called and there was a message saying to unplug box twice for 30 seconds.

***It came back on, said there was an update, I hit ok on the remote which worked this time and then I got a frozen blue screen. Did the whole process a second time and NOW EVERYTHING WORKS

I unplugged the box twice for thirty seconds, the box came back on but won't change channels or turn off... with the remote or on the box.

Hmmmm...
