DirecTV searching for signal?

About 3 days ago our cable went out, so basically it stays stuck on the black screen with the "Searching for satellite signal. Please stand by." We've tried everything from checking the cables to resetting the receiver but nothing works. We did find out however that there was a crack in the plastic cap in the feedhorn/receiver. We have contacted customer support for a house call but would anyone know what the real issue could be?

Sounds like that you found the problem something must have happen to the feedhorn, it's been a few years since I had Direct tv does your receiver have a little door on the front of it that has a card inside? I think most of them did if so take that card out push it back in turn off the receiver wait five minutes turn it back on and see if you have a picture pulling the card is a good way to reset the system ,my mothers tv just froze and when I pulled the card and plugged it back in it worked ok
