disabling front panel audio?

for some reason my mic wont work today in the output from my soundcard. if i plug it into the front panel mic out then its ok. i have enabled the correct port in the volume control panel and in the soundcard software, both of which say that its working correctly...but there is no sound.
is there a way to disable the whole front panel all together?
incidently, the green headphone jack on the front panel doesn't work anyway, just the mic or i would just plug my headset in and not worry.
any advice greatly received.
its a creative x-fi sound card btw.

I think the only way to disable the Front panel on that one is to unplug it from the board itself....it shouldn't affect anything else if you do
