First I'd like to clarify that jailbreaking and unlocking are one in the same. Also what are disadvantages of unlocking the iphone other than the warranty issues. There is a website offering a download to unlock your iphone in 10 minutes and what not, and I am aware of a few advantages of unlocking it. I am with AT&T already so the only reason I would have to unlock it is to have the available apps and extra features such as having a background behind the icons. Thanks for any help!

Jailbreak and Unlock are two different terms but they are both usually confused. Jailbreaking allows a user to install third party applications, software, themes and removes the limitations that are on the apple device. In short it gives the user the root access to iOS whereas unlocking means the user can switch between network carriers. The specialty in unlocking an iPhone is that if we unlock it the user is able to switch networks, avoid data roaming, high resale value for the phone. Recently I unlocked mine using the unlock code from Wickedunlock.com and removed the network lock permanently.
