Dish network box hdmi audio output?

Ok my question is about a dish network hd box audio output,,model vip222k,does the hdmi output in this box carry audio as well?i have a hdmi connected from the dish box to an onkyo receiver but the audio have to be through rca cables in order to hear anything,my onkyo receiver has two optical audio inputs one say tv/ tape and the other one says cd,im using the first optical audio for my ps3 because also ps3 do not output audio through hdmi ,the second optical input in my receiver the one that says cd wont do nothing i guess thats for a cd player or whatever,question is does this dish box output hdmi audio or is there is anything im doing wrong ?or this box needs a setting to be set to output audio with hdmi?

Some dish network boxes have the option to do audio output to the regular cables instead of via hdmi.

Go into the options/settings and find the audio options to ensure it is sending it via hdmi instead of regular cables.

Yes, that receiver does support audio through the HDMI port. Go to Menu -> System Setup -> Dolby Digital and change the setting to "PCM Only" and see what happens. If it works then the problem is that your receiver cannot decode Dolby Digital audio.
