DIVX player not buffering at all?

the latest version of the divx player does not buffer even if i wait for a very long time. it wasnt like this before. and sometimes the player will stop responding and my whole web browser will crash. what could i do? im using google chrome but ive tried making videos play in IE and firefox and the results are just the same.
