I wanted to uninstall Divx on my Macbook. I forgot to look for an uninstaller provided by Divx and just put all of the files I could find in the trash. I was trying to delete Divx from the PreferencePane folder in the Library. When I tried to empty my trash, I got the message "The operation can't be completed because the item "Divx Decoder" is in use."

The exact name of the file I am trying to delete is Divx Decoder.component

How can I delete this? I'd really love it off of my computer. Thank you!!

It is at one of two places (or both):
/Library /QuickTime
or...
yourhomefolder /Library /QuickTime

BTW, it doesn't take up much space and only allows QuickTime to play Divx files. It doesn't do anything sinister. If you have another movie app that you like better than QuickTime Player, you can simply select a Divx movie file, Get Info, and change the "Open with" selection to something other than QuickTime Player.

There are several websites that offer this component. One of them ( http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac/community-codec ) not only installs the component, but also installs DivX Player.app to /Applications. Trash it if you don't like it.
