My cat will occasionally chirp. Not like, tweet tweet, but like... pluuuurrrrp! Haha, that's the best way to describe it. She never meows (I dunno if she even CAN meow because she's never done it before), she just makes chirping noises. If you catch her by surprise, she'll chirp. If she wants to go outside, she'll chirp. If she wants your attention, she'll chirp. Not only that, but if she's pissed off or something she'll make these... grunting sounds/ I've never heard a cat make the chirp or the grunt. The grunt is high-pitched, but she makes it without opening her mouth. Sometimes it turns into a growl. It kind of sounds like: Nn-nnn, nene, nnn. Lol! It's really weird.

Do any of your cats chirp or grunt?

I'm not sure of my cats breed, but is is a breed thing? This is her:

She's the cat, obviously. xDD

So what do you think of all this?
Danes: Sooo cute, right? When I wake her up from her nap she'll chirp and just roll those big green eyes up at me like, "Mmm, morning!" Lol. (:
Catkeypurr: Really? Hazel (my cat) grunts while being held. She really hates to be picked up... sometimes it'll be like a long, continuous moan. Heart-breaking, actually. Lol!
See my cats cackles at things outside and when she's sitting by the window, but chirps when she's happy or surprised.

IS that common as well?

Yes mine chirps when she sees a bird or when she is just very relaxed laying in my arms.
When she sees a bird and chirps continuously it is because she is trying to sound like a bird to attract them to get closer to her so she can make a meal out of them. This chirp is short and quiet like. But when she is in my arms and happy as a clam, she will purr so loud and hard it becomes a chirping sound.

Quite cute in my book.

Yes my cat chirps at me all the time. Its cute and funny though so i love her anyway!! :D

I have quite a few cats, several of which chirp when they spot something interesting while looking out of the windows. The chirping is actually pretty common but a cat that chirps instead of meowing is unusual.
As far as I know it's not a breed specific trait. FYI: She looks like she may have some Maine Coon in her.

As far as the grunting goes that's not a common thing. I've had many cats over the years but only one grunter & he's one I have now. He seldom meows but grunts to get my attention & stretches his front legs up to be picked up like a toddler does.
He also grunts when he is not pleased with what I'm doing.

Yup. One of my cats (no idea on the breed) chirps, squeaks and beeps. But never meows. I just think it's freakin' adorable.
