I've ever saw a french girl kissing someone on his cheek to thanked him and i've ever seen a woman kissed a girl on the cheek and the woman said 'merci',is that some kind of a tradition? And is it still common nowadays?

Yeah, that's pretty much what happens. I'm half Greek and half French and I've never seen so many cheeks kissed anywhere else! I think it's just a European courtesy thing. Kind of like how Canadians say eh? at the end of some sentences to be polite... (Ex: You're pretty, eh? Even though the point has been made, it's just a courtesy thing). So to answer your question, yes it is a tradition and for the most part it is still practiced in a lot of Europe. Hope this is the answer you were looking for! :)
