We have had two unexplained deaths in our equine family recently. A week before Christmas, we lost my sister's 4 year old filly (the picture of health) to a unexplained illness or injury (trauma or neurological). It was very sudden. She started showing symptoms at noon and we put her down at 11 that night.
This morning, our mini donkey stud was found dead. A couple days ago, he started showing colic symptoms. My dad (who's a vet), treated him, and he got better. Late last night, we found him down and he couldn't get up (much like my sister's horse). We moved him inside, and my dad gave him some medicine, and when we came back this morning, he was dead. My dad is taking him to the university to get an autopsy.
We are concerned because some of the symptoms were similar.
So my question is, have you experienced any deaths in 3s? It worries me because our aging mare is due to foal in 5 weeks (same time between filly and donkey death). I know this sounds stupid and superstitious, but have any of you had this happen?
