do i need to get a data plan for the new blackberry curve 8900 for t-mobile?

My family is making the switch to t-mobile from verizon because verizon is too damn expensive. The only phone I actually like from t-mobile is the new curve. I am set on getting this phone.. I heard you need to get a data plan for the new curve if u want the $100 mail in rebate. If I do this, can I just cancel the data plan after the first month? On t-mobile's website it doesnt say that you need a data plan in order to use the phone, but it does say that u need to include it in ur plan to get the discount... please help

You don't have to have a plan for it, unless you want to access the internet. If you have wi-fi where you normally want to access the internet, then you can use the 8900's wifi capability to attach to the internet just as you'd attach to it with a laptop computer.

You don't need the data plan to get the rebate; you just provide proof of purchase (as you might imagine).

If you get the data feature and then decide you don't want it, you can remove it at any time (it's considered a "feature" with T-Mobile, rather than a "plan", and features can be added and removed at will). The cost you'd be charged is pro-rated, meaning that if you used a day of it, then you'd pay a day's worth of the cost for the month.

I have a Blackberry 8900, and I REALLY like it. You can get a feature for $34.99 a month that will allow you unlimited use AND unlimited texting; that's the one I have.

You do not need the data plan to use the phone. My sister has a curve. The phone is awesome. You may need it to get the discount but after a month you can remove it if you do not want the web on it. But they have this data/text plan that is like $20 a month. I know the text isn't unlimited I am just not sure how much it is. Hope this helps.
