Do I need to learn about this port forwarding in Bittorrent?

My downloads seem to be working, takes about one day or so to download a 5 gig file..but when I click on test to see if port is forwarded correctly it takes me to a webpage that says that port is not open, yet my uploads and downloads seem to be working properly..please tell me about this "port forwarding" and do I need to pay attention to it?
 
No. Bittorrent, much like BitComet, prefer that you manually open ports so that it can optimize the way it tansfers info. But this can back fire on you. I suggest leaving it as is or downloading uTorrent (a msaller portable verison) that doesn't prefer any port configuring. However you mention 5gb downloads in 24 our periods, you may not want to change anything since you are doing so well.
