Do I need to pay for internet service when I buy the HTC DROID ERIS from Verizon?

I know that with certain phones, you cannot have a contract without internet, such as blackberries. So I am wondering the same about the new droid eris. If I want to buy this phone to replace my old phone, which has no internet bundle, do I have to pay for internet with the new phone? sorry if that doesnt make sense. ANy help would be great thank you

ya there's really no way around it, and even if there was, android phones are pretty much always connected to internet, so u would rack up huge bills
