do i still need to install xvid when i already have vlc?

doesnt vlc already have all necessary codecs? will xvid have any codecs that vlc might not?
 
generally vlc has most of the codes and should play the xvid fine, i don't think vlc supports codecs being added, so if it works then it works, if not you have to use a different player with codecs.
