I have said before on this forum that atheism is a belief system. It is the belief that there is no God. Please, by all means, correct me if I am wrong. You can pick apart my argument or the semantics if you so desire. It seems as if many atheists are offended or insulted in some manner by my hypothesis. Why is that?
Is nihilism supposed to be the greatest good? Are those who believe in things to be frowned upon and shunned, like lepers? Is there some false sense of maturity that is supposed to be associated with not having beliefs? Are beliefs supposed to make someone child-like or naive? Why would any mature person assume that nonsense?
Is atheism a belief system? Why are so many people offended by that hypothesis? Is it uncouth or uncool to believe in things? If atheism is not a belief system, then what is it?
