Do they make "wheel guards" for trucks that are street legal? How can you

protect your wheels? I've seen these wheel guards on police trucks like you see in the following link below. Call me paranoid, but the first time even a compact car smashes into a wheel, that spells out the end of my truck. So I'm trying to protect my vehicle.

Any other suggestions welcome. I'm also thinking about getting smaller diameter wheels and lowering my truck to use the existing fenders to serve as a sort of shield instead of letting the wheels take all the impact of would-be wreckless drivers. Also, it seems that aluminum can be bent easier to also take some of the trauma off the axle if a wheel is struck. Finally, fat (not big around) tires might help a little as a sort of cushioning. Would love to hear your ideas. Thanks.
