...Infinity Gauntlet, Cosmic Cube, possible? It is very interesting that DC Comics recently expanded its "Green Lantern" concept to all the other colours of the rainbow. It used to be a silly idea- fellow has a problem... ZAP! with his ring: Problem Solved!
Now they seem to be THINKING when writing these stories.

The Cosmic Cube was a plot device that was touted for years doing stupid useless things, till they (well, Jim Starlin) wrote a story that showed what a REAL Bad Guy would REALLY do if he got his hands on such a device. Much later we got to learn that this THING every Thomas, Richard, and Henry had been fighting over was SENTIENT...!
AND there were MORE of them! (A LOT more...!)

The Ultimate Nullifier was always The-Weapon-So-Powerful-No-One-Needs-To-Use-It. Then there were a couple of stories where they DID use it- without taking it back.

Comic book stories are a gymnasium for the mind, that feeds, warms up, flexes, and strengthens the mind for work in the "real world."
We get to see concepts on display that would otherwise languish in the back shelves of some library somewhere. They are actually more serious than many people know- especially when they always think of them as being the same silly rags written by a 12-year old (e.g. Jim Shooter's SUPERBOY) they might remember.

These are comic books you are asking about?? Possibilities??? Seriously????
