I awoke this morning to the BBC news on Radio 4 and this is what I heard. Muslim represent a disproportionate percentage of the British prison population. The intention now is to provide them with mentors when they have finished their sentences in order to reduce the recidivism rate. The Muslim offender interviewed blamed his problems on his own community and their inability to accept that he had a problem. He said they were inclined to tell people offenders had gone to Pakistan for three years or gone there to get married. Yes, he did say Pakistan (his words, not mine). How can it be right that one section of the population receives support when the rest don't? I should just like to point out the Islam is a religion and not a race, so please no acccusations of racism.
 
Like Potnoodle says, charity. Different cultures do have different needs, that's pretty much undeniable. For instance, if I was being mentored, I wouldn't want a muslim - or anyone devoutly religious - doing it.

I don't agree with many Islamic ideals at all, but the Muslim community do a lot of things for themselves, without putting a strain on the tax payer.
 
The mentoring is being done by a charity. It isn't costing you a bean.

You'll find there are Christian groups which work with ex-offenders too. Do you object to these as well?
