Do you HAVE to cook lasagna noodles before you use them in a casserole?

I have seen recipes that don't require you to cook them before, but I don't know what it is that makes you be able to do that. I have also heard of some saying that they NEVER cook them before they use them in any recipe, but I've never done that, and I don't want to ruin the dish. It would be a time saver if I didn't have to cook them. Can anyone help me with this?? Thanks.

Nope. I never do, and I buy regular ol' lasagna pasta. I just stack them up in a pitcher, and add hot tap water. Let them sit about 10 min, then use to layer in casserole dish. Now that they are softened, you can break or tear them to fit.

Be sure to bake w/ foil or lid ON, about 45 min, then remove lid last 15 min.

Pasta is cooked by absorption of water. Some recipes submerge it in water and cook it but other recipes don't cook it so it has to be precooked. Read the recipe ahead of time.
