Mitsubishi was a major manufacturer of airplanes used against America in Pearl Harbor. Now its a household electronics name in America and also an auto manufacturer.

Exxon - need I explain the Valdeez or corporation profits?

If you question my intent, I only seek to know if you hold grudges against companies based on history (if so, which ones and why?) or are you unconcerned. There is no wrong answer.

And for the record - I'm not Jewish and am not an Anti-Semi.
I'm not Japanese, nor do I hate Japan.

Exxon kind of stirs some anger in me, because recent leeching from hard working Americans wallets instills anger. So I admit to avoiding Exxon products whenever possible.

Most of my biases are based on personal experience. If a company treats me bad I won't give them my business in the future. I'll also go out of my way to make sure everyone I know hears about my bad experience. I don't expect companies to be perfect, but I do expect them to take care of me when something goes wrong.

More to the point of your question, my father refuses to shop a Walmart because he doesn't believe in their business philosophy of paying the lowest wages that they can get away with. I on the other hand see the value of the fact that many of the people that work their wouldn't even have a job unless a company like Walmart existed. In addition, Walmart's general approach to business is to keep their profits right around 4% and doing everything they can to keep their prices as low as possible as long as they get their 4%. Most people don't realize that this just isn't done at any other company. Most companies strive to increase profit margins as much as possible (Exxon!). Walmart is also doing a great job at being a good environment steward.

Bottom line, I do have biases toward companies (positive and negative) but they are typically more about what the company is doing now vs what may have happened in the past. There are also plenty of people that spread negative rumors about companies. There was one about Liz Clayborn being a devil worshiper and one about Target not supporting Toys for Tots. Neither of these were true but plenty of people avoided doing business with them based on these lies.
