I am looking to buy my boyfriend the only thing he has hinted at wanting for Christmas, a handheld, wireless police/fire/radio scanner. I'm not looking to spend over $100 or $150. Looking for something easily programmable, good functionality & aomething ideal for a "beginner" (as it will probably end up stashed in the closet within a couple months, lol). I have been looking at Uniden Nascar scanners & they seem to be ideal for what I am looking for - any one else have any other suggestions from personal experience? (Thanks in advance!) :)

i wouldnt spend to much money on a scanner as the novelty may wear off , alot of the police fire ambo's use computers to msg so big things that happen u dont usually here about. and also are going to digital so some scanners that are cheaper are unable to receive them and not decode the msg. however uniden is a reliable and trusted brand you if you plan to use it in the car dont overlook a uhf cb radio with built in radio scanner as the novelity may not wear off as fast and th eradio can be used for road emergencys or reports for traffic etc ...
so biggest thing if your just looking at a scanner only is the frequencies it can cover
