Do you think Matt Hamill was over the top, in his victory celebration at UFC 96?

There is an article by Kevin Iole on Yahoo Sports MMA section, where he says he thinks so. He says it was in bad taste because the other guy was still k.o.'d on the other side of the octagon.

My opinion is he had every right to celebrate. He had just scored a highlight reel knockout in front of his home fans. Why not whoop it up a bit? If he is guilty of being overjoyed, then they should shoot the fool who simulated digging a grave, and burying his unconscious opponent, just a few fights later. What are your thoughts?

His celebration might have been a bit excessive, but it definitely wasn't over the top. Matt Hamill is one of the nicest guys in the UFC, and even spent his time at high school wrestling tournaments in Ohio before the fight. When he won the biggest fight of his career against another undefeated star wrestler, he has the right to celebrate, no matter what happened on the other side of the ring. Sure, the knockout was brutal, but he shouldn't be punished just because he won in such a dominant fashion. If he had won by a less brutal TKO or submission, it wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal.

The Kendall Grove grave-digger celebration is a great example. Grove, the TUF 3 middleweight winner, is only mediocre in the UFC, yet celebrates like a maniac with every win. If he could win as dominantly as Hamill did, the press would be all over him.

So, no, the Hamill's celebration was perfectly fine in my opinion. He scored a highlight reel knockout over his challenging opponent yet in the biggest fight of his career. Why shouldn't he be allowed to celebrate. He shouldn't be punished just because he won with such ferocity and domination.
