do you think my sexuality should have an affect on what sports i can do in high

school? i am a 15 year old gay male, recently i was called into my counselor's office because my sexual preferences were coming into question when i signed up for my school's wrestling. now it hasn't been decided yet but they said my chances were slim to make the team, is that right?

So to summarize what your counselor said "You are gay and this means you cannot join the wrestling team" ?

That doesn't seem right. How did he know you were gay? Anyway, go to your principal, your parents, and then the press. The more people you tell about this, the bigger the issue becomes, and the more likely you are to see change. (Or, if you don't want to make a big deal then just go to your principal and see if anything happens.)

despite being gay myself i can see where the concern might be, although it is not necessarily right. if you think about what wrestling is, it's technically rolling around on top of other guys. Some of the other guys may not be comfortable and who is to say you won't get turned on by it? Girls and guys are not allowed to wrestle in school because of a potential sexual attraction, so therefore it makes sense you wouldn't be allowed to for the same reason.

my best friend is a gay guy and wrestles at Princeton, plus he wrestled for his high school and it was all boys

thats so illegal!!!!

If this is seriously happening, get your parents involved, get a lawyer and contact the board of education. If nothing is resolved by talking with them take the issue to the legal system.

I dont think its right! i am gay, and on a wrestling team, my coach know about me but the other kids dont, and my coach said that as long as i dont mess with them, there wouldnt be any problem. I wasnt allowed at first but i found out that it was discrimination if i wasnt alowed. so just play that card and try your best to explain to them that being gay makes your sex life public but you are the same as everyone else on the team. and that being gay doesnt mean that guys are all you think about. so (Hug) good luck!!!

That would be extremely discriminating and is most likely illegal. Talk to the principle.

If guys and girls are allowed to wrestle against each other, then the principal can't say that you can't wrestle against other guys. But if you are attracted to guys, then yeah, they can make a rule against it. I know it sucks, but a lot of students and parents will not be comfortable with the idea of students sexually attracted to each other doing wrestling moves on each other. In gradeschool, we weren't allowed to wrestle against boys once we were in 7th grade, because it wasn't really appropriate. I was bigger and stronger than a lot of the boys, so it had nothing to do with ability or strength.

You should have the same rights as any other student, and be allowed to participate in any sport you choose. You should be judged on your merits, not your sexual orientation
