followers than it does to free? them from it?
Does it generate fear etc or dissipate it more?

If you don't fear God (i.e. literally be afraid of Him as in Job 23:15-16), then you do not have any Wisdom at all (Proverbs 9:10).

it relieves fear, worry, and anxiety. i feel calm knowing that i will make mistakes in my life and i will sin, but God will forgive me for all of it, and that i will go to heaven and so will everyone else in the world.

Seeking truth brings truth. Doubts and fears are only removed by letting them come up, not by keeping them stuffed.

1Cor.14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Religion without true faith sure does. It plays off it.

But if Jesus sets you free, you will be free indeed - and that is a promise.

If it does, that's not its purpose.

Why do you say "religion", like its religion's fault? If you go to hear a musician play and he plays badly, do you blame music?

For those who misunderstand and misapply the gospel message, you betcha.

I have no fear, worry or anxiety in regards to my standing with God.

You may consider this arrogant. I consider it nothing of the sort, because I am not relying on my performance in regards to that standing. To rely on my performance and consider myself worthy would, indeed, be arrogant.

My standing is secure because I rely on the finished work of Christ.

But, to your point. Yes. Many misunderstand the gospel and live in constant worry and fear. This worry and fear usually translates itself into pointing out flaws and missteps in others, hoping God will either (1) find the one person "better" than the other or (2) focus His attention elsewhere.

"..ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free"

Fear is not of God neither are worry & anxiety. If these things exist then I would presume a MAN is trying to generate fear and control perhaps. BUT God does not work in such darkness as this.
Freedom comes as we willing follow & obey God's commandments, not the precepts of men.
Religion however, is OFTEN a thing of man not God too - so, thus we often see guilt, fear and worry amongst its followers, true enough.<sadly>

I've always thought Guilt was a useless waste of emotion myself and if something does not motivate me towards positive change and personal freedom it is NOT for me!

Yes. Religion, politics, and economics, are fear based industries. It's kinda funny that a very wise man whose name I forget said, "Fear is atheism."

religion = fear
fear = religion

whats scarier than being told you are going to burn in a lake of fire for all eternity?
Some people can deal with it some cant

you're thinking of Vain Religion: harmful law,
which does generate fear (hath torment).

Pure Religion: pure grace: is harmless, and it's
not right of left/right but higher of high/higher.

Vain religion is unperfected love ... law (harmful)
Pure religion is perfected love ... grace (harmless)
