Do you think religion is a factor in the Republicans blocking the President's

Stimulus package.? For my fellow Americans:

The Republicans want 1 billion taken out that is suppose to go to the states for education and building new schools.

This reminds me of the film, 'Pilgrim's Progress'. In that film one of the main characters chastises the people for worshiping the god of education and the god of science.

We see statements here like, "There was no room on the ark for the dinosaurs so they drowned." and "Schizophrenia is demon possession."

So, obviously, education is not conducive to religion.

OR

Do you think the republicans are blocking the passage because they will do anything to see that the new President fails? If Obama turns this country around, like I hope he will, that could defeat any chance for a republican dominated government for a very long time.

What do you think?
Free to be me, please turn on CNN right now. The President is speaking at a town meeting in Elkhart Indiana. Hear it from the president not republican lies.

This is definitely in the wrong section, but I'll answer it.

As a religious conservative Republican, I can tell you authoritatively that this opposition has little to do with religion and everything to do with common sense and the ability to analyze and learn from recent history.

Roosevelt's New Deal, according to many economists, not only did not solve the Great Depression (World War II did), it prolonged and deepened a recession that quite probably would have resolved in a few years without his misguided and heavy-handed interference.

Reagan's policies set up the conditions that Clinton gleefully took credit for. Reagan balanced the budget, and freed American dollars from the crushing taxation of the Carter and Ford years.

Here's the truth: over the last century and even before, when taxes and the size of government were reduced, an economic boom resulted. Over the same period of time, when government grew and taxation were increased, recession or worse resulted. No exceptions.

Now, the current administration and an unrestrained Democrat-controlled Congress are working together to explode the size of government spending while reducing taxes. (Well, for the next year or two. Maybe three.)

Almost all of the "investment" to "create jobs" won't even BEGIN to impact the economy for 4-6 years, because the spending is for the infrastructure, and federal building repairs or renovations. Meanwhile, jobs will disappear into oblivion, and the economy may never recover.
