Do you think that those who rant against 4x4s are Luddites?

I mean gene descendants of the original anti tech people with little understanding of mechanics?

Most American "ordinary" saloon cars consume more gas than the average Japanese 4x4!!
MECHANICS.
A suzuki 4x4 is more economical than a ford mondeo and emits less toxic gasses. There you go
 
actually if you look at what the Luddites where protesting about back in the 19th century had a genuine case as the mass mills & large scale manufacturing was destorying liveilhoods and the artisans way of life - desimating whole communties.
these anti 4 by 4 protesters are not luddites in the correct definition as nobody is losing work and facing ruin and proverty by somebody having a 4x4.
the folk against these vechilces have a totally diffrent agenda. basically they just hate rich people poncing about in large vechiles ferrying their fat middle class brats to school clogging up the roads.
 
I like my 4x4's yea my big one gets 6 miles to the gallon but in case of flood or other disasters I'll have a way out. If you think for a second I won't drive over your car to save my family move far away. I use less then 20 dollars a week in fuel on weeks that I drive.
 
Do they really need them in a Town or City....I hardly think so...they all try to be something they are not...snobs...

I have one, it's my fourth and i will continue to drive them! I can afford it, the emissions are far less than most other cars and especially anything over five years old, it is averaging 33mpg round town and around 39 on a long journey - i think that's excellent. I live in the countryside and some of the roads are extremely bad in poor weather. I originally bought one as my then, small daughter used to be very car sick - it stopped as soon as i started driving the Trooper. My XC90 will carry seven adults so it is also very cost effective on nights out - no need to take two cars. A number of people who have sneered at them and their drivers over the years have eventually been able to afford one and now keep quiet!
