Do I think the Mayan prophecy of Dec 21, 2012 is going to take place? No. Do I believe that the stage is being set for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy concerning the end times (tribulation)? Absolutely. Just look at the Gog/Magog battle spoken of in Ezekiel 38 and 39. The lands involved are:
Magog - all agree this is the land now occupied by Russia
Persia - another easy one, Iran was known as Persia until the 1930's
Meschech and Tubal, Togarmah - all that is now modern day Turkey
Ethiopia - modern day Ethiopia
Lybia - again modern day Lybia
Gomer - the only one that is uncertain, some say it is Germany, but more and more scholars are thinking this is what is now all the "stan" countries around Russia (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, etc stan).
The Bible clearly states this war will happen in the "latter years". Some eschatological scholars think the Gog/Magog war occurs before the 7 year tribulation, some think it occurs sometime during the 7 year tribulation. But it DOES occur during the end times and shortly before the return of Jesus Christ.
Note, all but Russia are Islamic and have committed themselves to the destruction of Israel. Russia would love to have control of the trillion + dollars worth of natural gas recently discovered in Israel.
Could the Rapture take place this year and remove the restainer the Bible speaks of (restrainer is the Holy Spirit working through the Church) and open the way for the antichrist to be made known? Maybe, maybe not, but I am certain it is very, very near.
