Basically, its 1964 and its set on a HUGE island (im talking New Zealand size) off the coast of hawaii, and its about 100yrs ahead of every other country technologically.
It will start like a normal story about a certain character (blah blah, you heard it all before), but soon after their will be a nuclear explosion (although i will only describe it as a deafening sound and a blinding light at that time). At this point i will take the main character out of the story for awhile and center around 3/4 different people(in different locations), and what happens to them before and during the explosion. The main part of the story will be those few people and their survival (or death).
