MANCHESTER UNITED tried to land Everton's Jack Rodwell last month - and will return with a £15million summer bid.

United backed off in the transfer window when Toffees boss David Moyes made it clear how important the 19-year-old whizkid was for the club's survival fight.

Alex Ferguson is trying to reinvigorate his United squad with youth.

He knows this could be 36-year-old Paul Scholes' last campaign and Michael Carrick, 29, is set to leave after the season with a year left on his contract and no new deal on the cards.

Rodwell has been with Everton since he was seven years old.

He first came to Fergie's attention as a sub in the Toffees' 2009 FA Cup semi-final victory over United.

Rodwell misses today's FA Cup tie at Chelsea after injuring his groin on England Under-21 duty earlier this month.

MANCHESTER CITY are facing another battle to keep Carlos Tevez.
Barcelona and Inter Milan have already made their interest known and Eastlands chiefs are convinced their skipper will look for a move in the summer.

Tevez's advisors wanted to re-negotiate his City deal, but the club refused.

The Argentine star, 27, is already the country's best-paid player on £257,000 a week and is only in the second year of a five-year contract.

City hope to thrash out a compromise with an image-rights deal which could net the striker a further £40,000 a week.

But they fear even this may not be enough to appease his advisors.

City talked Tevez out of quitting when he handed in a transfer request earlier this season. And the striker insisted his differences with the club are now behind him.

But Tevez has always listened to his closest advisor Kia Joorabchian over financial and football matters.

If he does so again in the summer, City believe they will be facing another major battle.

SPURS will beat rivals Arsenal to sign Ipswich whizkid Connor Wickham in the summer.
The £15million-rated forward, 17, is already an England Under-21 star.

Town boss Paul Jewell said: "Connor is quick, strong and has all the tools to be a top player.

"He's very mature but I think he does have a tattoo that's spelt wrong!"
