Does anyone know how to work BitTorrent?

I have recently downloaded the program BitTorrent for music, my friend told me it was much easier and safer than using limewire. But I haven't been able to ask him how to work it, can anyone guide me through it?
 
Download your file's associated 'torrent file' (extension .torrent). drag it into bittorrent, it'll automatically start downloading..
BTW try µTorrent, m think it's the best one out there..

Yes, that's the uTorrent website, but they're actually the same client, just packaged differently.

The tl;dr version is this:
1) Install client
2) Open port in firewall; forward in router
3) Download .torrent file and open in client
4) Wait for download to finish
5) Seed.
