Does anyone know if you can put rechargeable batteries into a graphing calculator?

I have a TI-83 (not plus) graphing calculator and I want to know if it's safe to put some of those rechargeable Energizer batteries. So I won't have to keep buying new AA batteries. Please help...and thanks! : )
