It's an AT&T phone. i want to unlock this phone and use a different carrier
i don't want to call them and ask for it because, i bought it from craigslist and it was previously owned

You will have to call and ask. They won't murder you for asking but tell them you got it as a gift and make it easier on yourself. They will provide it even if you don't have an account. Other than that you can pay a 3rd party to unlock it. You can usually find a store near you but it can get expensive.

you cant call and ask for it anyways because they wont give it to you and there isnt a set one (its not the same for every Q9h). it has to do with your imei number. you should never buy a phone from someone who claims it is unlocked because chances are they screwed it up (dont know if thats what happened to you or not). i bought a moto slvr a few years ago on ebay that the seller claimed was unlocked. it was not unlocked properly and i made every phone call possible to get that code. motorola will not give it to you and the only other way to get it is from the carrier of the phone and they will not give it to you either because you do not have an account with them.

after my experience i ended up learning how to unlock and mod moto phones and did it myself successfully. there are sites online that will sell you the subsidy unlock code for around $25 if you give them your imei number.
