One time I stayed the night at a friends house and her mom had a Malaysian boyfriend so she was always trying diferent recipes. that night her mom made this dish and I wanna say the meat was either steak or beef and she made a sauce to dip it in that was spicy and had a peanut butter taste to it. I'd really like to know what this is so I could try to make it myself. Any help would be great

It could have been Beef Rendang, a very popular beef dish in Malaysia. I grew up in Malaysian (* I am not Malaysian though!) and LOOOOOVE the food there. It is truly the best food in the world, and the chinese, Indian side of the cuisine is fantastic.

Beef Rendang, or Beef satay,

Satay is when you put the meat, or tofu on a skewer and grill it, and often they make the peanut sauce to go with it. Enaak!! Lah! ( Delicious, really!)
The peanut sauce from Malaysia is a little bit spicey and they put soysauce with peanut butter, sometimes come chili and salt amd lemon juice, to amke it spicey and it;s really good.

So, if the meat was on skewers it was likely Satay, and if it was in a dish with the sauce covering the beef, it could have been Beef Rendang, but I think it was Satay.

This recipes sed a lot of ngredients, but you can boil them down by using just beef, and getting ready made sauce and spices

there are americanised versions on Recipezaar, but they are not very goof, and they use smooth peanut butter, and things like that, not authentic

Here is another easy-ish satay recipe, the peanut suace is linked at the end

and because satay is chicken, beef or fish I love this sitek and thought I'd link to it, because it has a recipe for chicken sate, althoug I do thing beef is better, you can look at her peanut sauce recipe too.
This is a good site and the chef is Malaysian
Here is the peanut sauce,

and look elsewhere for the beef satay on her site.

Makan Enaaaak!

( gorgeous food!)

Its is definately a Satay or Sate.

Satay or sate is a dish consisting of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef or other meats; the more authentic version uses skewers from the midrib of the coconut leaf, although bamboo skewers are often used. These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings.

Satay may have originated in Java, Indonesia but it is also popular in many other Southeast Asian countries, such as: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the southern Philippines and Vietnam as well as in The Netherlands which was influenced through its former colonies.
