We can trace our mitochondrial DNA back to the first female homo sapiens ever, that lived in East Africa.
So what I would like to know.. does every species have it's own set of mitochondrial DNA that can be traced back? Or does their mDNA mutate more frequently which makes it harder to trace back that species ancestors.
Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
