Does Illustrator CS3 take less RAM than CS4 on Windows XP?

I couldn't download CS4 properly because my RAM is about 112MB available or something and I need 512MB which the System Info says I had from the beginning. How do I fix this without any upgrades? Can't do upgrades at this time and i was able to download Photoshop CS4 with no problems.
