Does it matter when you're baptized?

People have been telling me that it matters when you're baptized. I'm living in a "Christian" house and they said that you can only be baptized after you accept Christ as the savior, not the other way around. They even tried pointing to a verse in the bible that says "He who believes and is baptized shall be saved" and it doesn't state whether or not the person has to believe before getting baptized. They keep saying how important it is to preach the Gospel and that if I'm saved it's a good thing to share this "gift" with others. I'm Eastern Orthodox living in an American "Christian" house.

The Bible does not have a requirement for when baptism should take place but after childhood makes the logical choice for water baptism. The second and more important baptism of the Holy Spirit comes from God so we have no control over its timing. When and if God chooses to give it to,then sharing your faith will not be an issue;you will be so filled with the love of God you won't be able to remain quiet about Him!
