Does my sattelite receiver, from UAE, work in Australia?

I have been living in UAE where I had a sattelite receiver to see TV channels.
Recently I have moved to Melbourne.
People here say that there is no need for a receiver here as all the TV's are digital and can tune without a receiver. I have been able to receive a few anlogue channels only.

I have not yet tried, but will my sattelite receiver work in Australia?
