Does the android allow hardware access to the mini usb connector?

I know that iPhone SDK does (iPhone SDK 3.0) since it was presented on the keynote. Wondering can Android do the same thing. I google it and found only G1, Droid an nexus one can be used as USB host by hacking it therefore it is not official. Even the iPhone has it, I haven't seen any hardware rather than speakers use it. Is it possible for Android to allow hardware access to the usb connector? And have you seen and hardware like that (for Android/iPhone) out there?
